More Tawny Owls

The final nest box checks for Tawny Owls near Gotham have been completed. Out of five boxes, two were occupied by mothers, with a total of three chicks ringed. Both mothers had already ringed at the same site in previous years. Hopefully the chicks from this year will go on to be successful parents in the future.

Attenborough CES - Visit 3: Sunday 21 May

A poor catch today at Attenborough finished with a total of 17 birds, 13 of them retraps. The
highlight was a female Nuthatch that takes our total for the year up to 5, which is probably our
highest annual total in the last 20 years.

We also ringed 7 Blue Tit chicks in a nestbox, all were healthy and in good condition.
The weather was bright and breezy, with the water level still not going down by the main net
rides. Fingers crossed that the catch improves on subsequent visits.
