We carried out the first visit of the 2026/2027 winter CES this weekend. It was a foggy start and it lingered until mid morning which probably affected our catch. The nets at the feeders were particularly quiet. We caught 45 birds in total throughout the morning. Of these, 7 were retraps from previous winters, including a Robin ringed on our first ever visit in 2023. Highlights from the morning included a Nuthatch (pictured), 6 Blackbirds, 13 Redwing, a Blackcap. Just before we finished a late Swallow passed overhead, heading south.
